I Smell Smoke, My Bodies Alarm System

My Alarms

Anxiety is often misunderstood as a glitch, but it is actually one of the body's many sophisticated alarm systems designed to keep us safe. Much like a smoke detector, it signals when something in our environment or internal state needs attention; however, most of us treat it with urgency rather than curiosity. When the alarm blares, our first instinct is to "pull the batteries" by suppressing the feeling or numbing it just to stop the noise. To truly heal, we must shift from silencing the alarm to understanding its function. By allowing the alarm to sound and listening to its message, we discover exactly where we've drifted off course. This awareness is the only way to make the proactive adjustments-whether in our boundaries, lifestyle, or perspective-that prevent these systems from needing to scream in the first place.
