I believe that today, there is more of an approach to influencing through inspiration rather than manipulation. People are all very different in their pursuit of getting what they want, with some being very self-centered and others being more focused on others.
I think this quote is just a great reminder, a simple to the point profound reminder! You will not get very far in life using this old-school tactic of manipulating people for your benefit. This is a control tactic, and when you're dealing with people, the one thing you don't have over them is control. Consider reflecting on the second part of this quote to see how others have inspired you, how you have inspired you, or how you have inspired them. Inspiration will take you farther in life than manipulation ever will.
